NCCA has been keeping a close eye 2011 Beautiful Minds winner John Guider as he makes his way down the great Mississippi River. Since we last checked on this modern day Huckleberry Finn, John has faced some obstacles on the water. With severe storms and the rising river a major concern during the first few weeks of July, the National Coast Guard put a ban on any recreational boating on the Mississippi river in order to prevent damage to saturated banks and flood walls.

John Guider began phase seven of his journey around the great waterways of the east coast and mid-west. John set sail in Wisconsin, along Lake Michigan on June 19. Within the first week of rowing he faced high waves and strong winds. On June 27 he arrived at Port Washington safely where he gathered more supplies.
