Seniors’ Mental Health Project Gets Major Funding
The Bell Telephone company had pledged $36,400 for a creative arts program aimed at helping older adults battle depression. As part of a $50 million corporate responsibility campaign, the Bell grant enables Faye Wilkinson to launch Visible Voices- Through the Looking Glass. The program includes activities like visual art, sculpture, storytelling and fiber art, all of which has been shown to provide participants significant improvements. "A lot of laughing happens, a lot of humor. It's about getting over the perception you have to be an artist to participate," said Wilkinson. To put a face to depression, the program will be taped and shown to local community groups.
