They Still Wait for Real Independence
As India celebrated its 64th anniversary of the day it gained independence, nonagenarian, social activist and practicing lawyer Ram Balak Mishra remembered the dream of India’s original freedom fighters. They fought for an India, free from British rule, which would grow with the world while retaining its cultural identity. Instead, as he says, “Today's youth feel bad in communicating in Hindi.” He sees the lack of respect for culture as being the reason corruption is allowed to run rampant in Indian politics. Mishra will continue to wait for the youth to remember and revere the freedom fighters of yesteryear. Only then, he feels, will India start to improve.
