Uniting Generations Provides Direction to Older Adults and Youth
Honored as one of the top five Best Intergenerational Communities in America, San Diego County boasts several programs for older adults to stay active in the community and connected with the area’s youth. These programs include Dance Generators, which is a University of San Francisco program that seeks to bridge the age gap through the performing arts. Dance Generators features performers of all ages and levels of dance experience who share a passion for this beautiful art form. Many county residents share the hope of re-defining the aging process through education and interaction. One community leader cites the importance of mentoring programs in the community. “Just exposing the younger generation to the wisdom and stories that the older adults have is fabulous,” says Deborah Rose of Cal State’s Fullerton Center for Successful Aging.
