Metlife Foundation Technical Assistance Grantees
Competitive technical assistance grants in the amount of $5,000 each were awarded to three organizations in the United States that submit exceptional applications to develop arts and aging programs in their communities. Grantees will have one of the Leadership Award Program Winners to provide on-site technical assistance and consulting services to their staff and community members. The goal will be to begin an arts and aging program, or further develop an existing one, in the grantee’s community. The grant will also provide support for a half-day forum bringing together arts and aging programs in the grantee’s community.
And the winners are…
Lifelong Learning: OPENING MINDS THROUGH ART
Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is an intergenerational art program for people with dementia. It is grounded in person-centered ethics and founded on the fact that people with dementia are capable of expressing themselves creatively. There is a growing body of empirical evidence that creative expression improves their physical and psychological well-being. The mission of OMA is to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art.
Community Engagement: TIDEWATER ARTS OUTREACH
The mission of Tidewater Arts Outreach is to uplift the human spirit by bringing live, quality music and arts experiences to people in Hampton Roads who are in homes, hospitals, shelters, facilities and dependent care programs or otherwise are isolated from society.
